Location:
For relaxing, escaping the rat-race and generally doing as little as possible, Barn Owl Barn is ideally located on the edge of a small hamlet, (population approx 100). We think it enjoys the best of both worlds, located in the gently undulating Charentaise countryside, surrounded by fields, sunflowers, woods and vineyards but not completely isolated and with the convenience of village amenities at Villefagnan within a few minutes’ drive.

Restaurants:
There is an excellent restaurant 3 km away at Londigny, the Auberge du Noyer, with a la carte and menu du jour.
At Tusson, Le Compostelle is a traditional French restaurant. Within a 20 minute drive there are many other good restaurants in Verteuil sur Charente, Nanteuil en Vallee, Condac, Luxe and Ruffec.

Just beyond Villefagnan is a small natural lake with a man-made beach, and a children’s play area. There are fishing facilities on the village lake. There is a riding school in nearby Bernac. Further down the N10 towards Angouleme, there is a larger lake and leisure beach, with restaurants, cafes, and lifeguards in the summer.

Throughout the region there are many mediaeval towns and villages, chateaux and churches to be explored, each with their own character and charm. There are the famous ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ to be visited, some of them easily reached on a day trip. The haunting WW2 ‘museum’ village of Oradour sur Glane, on the way to Limoges, is well worth a visit. The drive down to Cognac is particularly beautiful, winding through endless sloping vineyards and picturesque chateaux, towns and villages.

The Charente river is accessible near Villiers le Roux at many places, with good restaurants on the riverside. Boating, kayaking and picnicking facilities on the river are to be found at Condac, just the other side of Ruffec.
